Root Cause – To understand how to improve you must ask why.

Many businesses struggle to understand why their key metrics function the way that they do. Sadly, instead of pursuing the why, they settle for a bunch of canned reports describing what is happening.  Describing what is happening can be useful, but in order to understand how to improve, we must start to ask why things are happening.  Enter the diagnostic stage of BI.

The diagnostic stage of BI is particularly important because it enables organizations to identify root causes; not just the root cause for negatives like problems and issues, but also the root cause for positives like wins and improvements.  It gives organizations the ability to answer questions typically dismissed as one-offs and anomalies. So, rather than just writing off the items that don’t make sense, may I suggest that maybe it’s time to think diagnostic – to start building a platform that takes a deeper look at your data and its relationships, and shows you not only the “what’s”, but the “why’s”.  Some of the most impactful changes for the organization can only occur once you know the “why”. And then the results, due to changes you make when you know the “why”, almost seem like magic. And who doesn’t like magic.

If you’re struggling to move from the “what’s” to the “why’s” in your business, we’d love to help.  We can be valuable partners in accelerating your business transformations and getting you the answers you’re looking for.
